Jay Gage Obituary

Jay Mitchel "Mitch" Gage, 67, Onawa, formerly of Emerson, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
Mitch was born April 8, 1955, in Council Bluffs, the son of John and Opal (Kadel) Gage. He graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1973. On July 12, 1975, Mitch was united in marriage to Karen Huntsman in Emerson. Mitch lived all of his life in Emerson until moving to Onawa a year ago. He worked with his brother, Dale, in the auto body shop in Emerson and had a long career in the automotive industry before working for Skelgas, McKee Farms, Scoular Elevator, City of Emerson, and Heartland Cooperative.
Growing up, Mitch was a member of Emerson United Methodist Church where he attended church, Sunday School and Bible School. Currently, he is a member of City Light Church in Emerson. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, watching his son Andy race stock cars, seeing old vintage cars, and serving his community. He was a longtime member of the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department and was a First Responder.
Preceding him in death were his father, John Gage; brother, Alan Gage; and his in-laws, Robert and Jeanette Huntsman.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Gage of Onawa; children, Andy Gage and wife Heidi of Whiting, and Brandi Miller and husband Bill of Onawa; six grandchildren, Jordan Gage of Onawa, Gavin and Jonathan Gage of Whiting, and Hannah, Marcus, and Allyson Miller, all of Onawa; mother, Opal Gage of Emerson; brothers and sisters, Jerry Gage and wife Elanor of Kellerton; Dixie Strange and husband Doug of Red Oak; Dale Gage and wife Bonnie of Emerson; Ron Evans and wife Bev of Orem, Utah; Joy Evans of Nevada; Denzil Gage and wife Debbie of Glenwood; and Marlin Gage and wife Peggy of Emerson; brother-in-law, Bob Huntsman and wife Pam of Emerson; sister-in-law, Suzette Smith and husband Jens of Emerson; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, 2022, at the City Light Church in Emerson. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established.
