Randall Tye Obituary

Randall "Randy" John Tye, 63, Ames, formerly of Griswold, died Jan. 4, 2015, in Des Moines.
The son of John Elmer and Patricia Faye (Johnson) Tye, Randy was born November 11, 1951 in Creston. He attended school in several different places before graduating from Griswold High School with the class of 1969.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1973.
On May 22, 1971, he was united in marriage to Marilyn "Marty" Auxier at Noble Center Church south of Lyman.  They had two children, Sean and Stacey.  They farmed by Grant for several years before Randy started working for the post office in Omaha as a mail handler. Randy held several different jobs with the post office before becoming the Postmaster in Griswold. He retired in 2005.  Randy and Marty moved to Ames in November.
Randy was a member of the Griswold American Legion, had been a Montgomery County Supervisor, had served on the Griswold School Board, and had been a member of Rotary Club. He enjoyed golfing and camping. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Randy is survived by his wife Marty of Ames; his children Sean Tye and wife Nikki of Deerfield, Ill. and Stacy Williams and husband Derek of Nevada; his grandchildren, Peter, Randi, Fletcher, and Harrison; his brothers, Gary Tye and wife LaDonna of Red Oak, Dan Tye of Des Moines; and sister Laurie Williams and husband LeRoy of Winchester, Ky.  Randy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 8, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at the Griswold United Methodist Church.  Interment will be at Whipple Cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
