Emma Brewer Obituary

Emma Stokes Brewer, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mrs. Brewer, a native of Pitt County, had made her home in the Pactolus Community for the past 38 years. A retired employee of Eveready Battery Company (Union Carbide), she had also worked part time at Pitt County Memorial Hospital Education Department and as a Media Assistant at Pactolus Elementary School. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her parents, Jennings B. Stokes and Mamie Rouse Stokes; brothers, George W. Stokes, J.B. Stokes Jr. and Elbert R. Stokes; and sisters, Mable S. King and Sylvia S. Bailke. She is survived by her husband, John D. Brewer; children, Brenda B. Peaden and husband, Terry, Cecilia B. Hardee, and John K. Brewer and wife, Tonya, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Justin Peaden, Corey Brewer, Ginger Hardee, Chase Hardee, Hunter Pardue and Taylor Peaden; sisters, Alma Mills of Chocowinity, Esther S. Tyson of Washington, N.C., and Nancy S. Everette of Greenville; brothers, James "Tom" Stokes of Greenville, William "Fred" Stokes of Louisiana and Melvin Stokes of Wilmington. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 - 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834. The family would like to give a special thanks to Jill Whitfield and Alma Mills for their support and dedication.

I will always remember Aunt Emma Pearl and all the times I spent at her house. She will be greatly missed and always loved. My heart goes out to Brenda, Cecelia and Kelvin and to my Uncle John.
