AYDEN - Gail Joyner Johnston, 72, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 to 4 PM.
Gail lived most of her life in Pitt County and was a graduate of J.H. Rose High School. For 30 years, she, along with her late husband, Bruce, owned and operated Johnston Landscaping and Maintenance. In her younger years, Gail enjoyed camping with her husband, travelling and she loved anything that involved her grandchildren, including dance, baton, basketball, football, baseball, and soccer. She also loved celebrating Christmas and would watch Christmas movies all year long.
Gail was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Earl Johnston, and parents, Richard and Betty Joyner.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Johnston and wife, Heather House, of Ayden; son, Richard "Richie" Johnston and wife, Ashley, of North Canton, OH; grandchildren, Gavin Johnston, Gunnar Johnston, Emma House, and Ethan House; sisters, Ann Joyner Ware of Elizabeth City, Vicky Joyner Andrews, and husband, Bud, of New Bern; brother, Richard G. "Dicky" Joyner and wife, Julie, of Chocowinity; second-son, Derrick Cox; guardian angel, Cindy Walters; dear friend, April Grant; and special niece, Andi Ware-Lawrence.
