James Michael "Mike" Roberson
ROBERSONVILLE - James Michael "Mike" Roberson age 85 of Robersonville passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025 surrounded by his family at the Hospice House in Greenville, NC after a brief illness.
He was born on June 10, 1939 to Ervin and Helen Williams Roberson and graduated in 1958 from Robersonville High School. Mike was an excellent football player and was All-Conference several years. He received a football scholarship to Chowan College until a knee injury ended his career.
Mike married Iris Roberson in February 1966 who recently passed away in December 2024. He was employed by the Town of Robersonville initially as a police officer and was a volunteer with the Rescue Squad and Fire Department. In 1973, Mike became the Town of Robersonville's first employed Fire Chief. He held this position for 33 years until his retirement in 2006 with 46 years in fire service. Mike also served as a fire instructor to many fire departments and community colleges throughout the years. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Robersonville.
Mike was predeceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth Roberson and brother William "Bill" Roberson.
He is survived by his daughters Tammy James (Charles) and Michele Hunt (Tommy) and his brother George Roberson (Judy). He is also survived by his granddaughter Brittany Wells (Carl), grandsons Chase James, Adam Renner, and Shane Renner and 3 great grandsons Ellis, Jackson, and Archer Wells. The family would like to thank the staff at The Williamston House and Gentiva Hospice for their wonderful care of "Mr. Mike" over the past 18 months.
Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 7:30PM at Biggs Chapel in Robersonville. A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 11:00am at Biggs Chapel in Robersonville. Burial will follow the service at the Robersonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robersonville Fire Department.
