Joyce Powers Obituary

GRIMESLAND - Mrs. Joyce Smith Powers, 64, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2011. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Powers, daughter of the late Elbert and Bettie Mae Jackson Smith, was born in Ayden and was a graduate of Ayden High School. She was employed as a bookkeeper for A.G. Cox Middle School and had been a resident of Grimesland for the past forty years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughie C. Powers; a brother, Lynn Smith; and a niece, Tina Vandiford.
Surviving are a son, Chris Powers and wife, Jennifer, of Grimesland; daughter, Karen Braxton and husband, Jamie, of Grimesland; sister, Judy Vandiford and husband, Charlie, of Greenville; sister-in-law, Deana Smith of Greenville; brothers-in-law, Charles Powers of Newport, and Herman Mills of Grandy; and grandchildren, Joshua, Madison, Hailey, and Hayden, all of Grimesland.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home tonight from 6 – 8 and at other times at the home of Karen and Jamie Braxton.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to the Simpson Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 32, Simpson, NC 27879 or Salem United Methodist Church, PO Box 218, Simpson, NC 27879.

I am so sorry to hear of Joyce passing. I went to school with her and she was a very sweet person. May God be with you both. I have known the family since I was knee high. I hurt for you so much. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
