WILLIAMSTON - King David Leggett, 86, died at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2019. King, a native and lifetime resident of Martin County, was born on October 8, 1932 to the late Mack D. and Beulah B. In 1967, King began his career as Tax Collector for the Town of Williamston, a position he held until his retirement in 1995.

King was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Williamston where he served as a deacon, a member of the Team House Calls building ramps for those in need, and a member of the Benevolence Team. He enjoyed being a part of the Joe Peele Sunday School Class.

On December 24, 1972, King married Earline C. Leggett whom he adored until her passing on September 28, 2018. King loved his family, friends, and the Lord. He enjoyed cooking banana puddings and chicken salad for countless people in the community, especially catering to those experiencing a difficult time. King will be missed by the many who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his daughter Deborah Kay Wommack of Georgia, grandchildren Shon Williams and Shala Cravey, great grandchildren Hunter, Hynlee, and Harper Cravey, brothers Jimmy Leggett, Joe Leggett, and Ernest Leggett all of Williamston, sisters Betty Rae Starnes of Charlotte, NC. and several nieces and nephews. Other than his wife Earline, he was preceded in death by brothers, William Leggett, Roy Leggett, John Leggett and Mack Leggett; sisters Viola Sanderlin, Mary Rogers, and Annie Mae Starnes.
