Peggy Stokes Obituary
AYDEN - Peggy Lou Stokes, 80, of Ayden, passed away on September 21, 2017 at her home. She was born in Greene Co., NC to Harvey and Doris Worthington Stone on July 9, 1937. Peggy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Jimmy Stokes; both parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Jack Stone and a sister, Janie Johnson. She was a longtime member of Elm Grove FWB Church where she served as the Sunday School Class Secretary. She also kept many other church members in her thoughts, as she called them on their birthdays. Peggy had a love of music, all kinds, and was often found listening and singing along if she knew the lyrics.
Peggy is survived by her son, Tony Stokes and wife, Teresa, of Ayden; two sisters, Shirley Boseman, of Robersonville and Helen Smith, of Sanford; eight precious grandchildren, Matt and Adam and Jacob Stokes, Will and Kaitlyn Buck, Lisa and Whitney Parrish and Sherri Davis. She also leaves behind a very special great grandson, Myles Davis.
A Graveside Service will be held at the Cannon Family Cemetery on Sunday September 24, 2017 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Ayden.

Mrs. Peggy was a very nice lady that took me and my sister in as her own grandchildren. She was our step grandma and we loved her just like we did our own grandma. I will miss seeing her sit in her rocking chair listening to old country music in the living room.

I remember Peggy when her and I were working at Mr. Gorman Stokes cucumber grading station at Helen's Cross Roads. She was a fine lady. My condolences to the family.
