Stanley Glover Obituary

Stanley Warren Glover GREENVILLE - Stanley Warren Glover, 85, of Greenville was born in Bailey, North Carolina in 1939 to the late Percy Warren Glover and Lola Honeycutt Glover. He passed away at home on August 18, 2024 after a lengthy lung disease. To celebrate Stan's life, a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3 PM and also following the service at the home. The graveside service will be held at Calvary Methodist Church in Littleton, at 2 PM on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He received a BS in Agronomy from North Carolina State University in 1962. The same year, he married Mary Ellen Ricks just before starting his service in the United States Army in 1962, at Fort Devens, Massachusetts until 1965. They moved to Lumberton next where their two children, Dean and Connie, were born. He was active in the Lumberton Jaycees serving as President, JCI Senator, and Life member. He had a successful career in the agriculture chemical business for over 30 years, calling on golf courses including Augusta National and the Pinehurst courses, and farmers along the East Coast. Golf was always a passion for Stan playing in too many tournaments, serving on the Board at Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon, and as a Ranger at Ironwood Golf & Country Club. Stan was fortunate to experience love twice in his life. First with Mary Ellen Glover for 34 years who succumbed to cancer in 1994. His second love Janet Cowan ensured that Stan continued to live a big and happy life for another 19 years. They met taking dance lessons, and stayed active in the Eastern NC Shag Club, serving on the board and dancing as much as possible. She cared for and loved him until his last breath. He is survived by his spouse, Janet Cowan of Greenville; son, Dean Glover and wife, Megan of Littleton; daughter, Connie Freeman and husband, Tommy of Cary; Janet's son, Jeff Cowan of Greenville; and daughter, Leigh Hamilton and husband, Wayne of Greensboro; grandchildren, Justin Freeman of Cary, Ellen Freeman of Wilmington, Nathan Hamilton of Greensboro, Dennis Cowan of Arizona, Ward Baker of Burlington, and Lily Baker of Littleton; his brother, Thelbert Glover of Spring Hope; and many nieces and nephews. Stan's family expresses gratitude to his family, friends, neighbors, and Gentiva Hospice who helped him during the last two years and final days. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Oakmont Baptist Church, 1100 Red Banks Road, Greenville, NC 27858. Arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home & Crematory of Greenville and Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service of Roanoke Rapids. Online condolences at www.wilkersonfuneralhome.com.
