Stephen Clark Green
GREENVILLE - Stephen Clark Green, 84, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Stephen Clark Green was born February 23, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to William and Louise Green and was "off like a prom dress" as he would say on March 14, 2025.
He grew up in a household with his parents, a sister Marcia, and his maternal
grandmother, who also happened to be the
principal of his elementary school. Because of his living situation, he was unable to get away with anything in his youth, so he saved all of his shenanigans for adulthood. Steve attended three years of college and then went on to Tulane Medical School where he specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, much to the chagrin of his father who wanted him to go into the family insurance business. Steve was drafted into the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Montana delivering babies on the base. He liked to brag that he did a great job protecting his country because not once was his base attacked. After his honorable discharge, Steve took his family to Twin Falls, Idaho where he raised his three sons, Ric, Mitch, and Tom, while running his private practice where he delivered thousands of babies and performed as many surgeries. After retirement from private practice, Steve was recruited to East Carolina University, following a brief stint in Arizona, to teach ob/gyn to the medical students. Steve was an extremely well-loved teacher and used to frequently joke with his students to, "not get in over my head." Steve's sense of humor was one of the best things about him. One of his favorite running jokes with the grandchildren was teasing them about how he had lost his thumb. Depending on the location, he would make up a relevant story. If they were at the beach, a shark had bitten it off, if they were at the grocery store, he had stuck his hand on the conveyer belt. Teasing and joking was Steve's love language and everyone who knew him was subjected to it. Steve was a pilot, a writer, a volunteer, a jokester, a snazzy dresser, and a lover of the finer things in life. He never stood on decorum and didn't let a somber event deter him from cracking an inappropriate quip.
Steve leaves behind to miss him and his ill -timed humor his children, William Eric Green and wife Eva, Mitchell Clark Green, Thomas Daniel Green and wife Maureen, Adam Christian Harrell and wife Hillary, Bonnie Ward Harrell and partner Lee, grandchildren Stephenie Paras and husband Jeff, Matthew Green, Alexander Green, Meghan Nadzam and husband Derick, Delaney Green, Cassidy Wright and husband Geromy, Gentry Green, Mac Harrell, Tate Harrell, Emma Clark Harrell and great-grandchildren Oliver Paras, DeAndrae Nadzam, and Zachary Paras. He also leaves behind his pool playing, restaurant going buddy, caregiver Tonya Gray. Special thanks to ECU Home Health & Hospice for making Steve's last days comfortable.
Visitation will be at the home of Tom and Maureen Green at 202 York Road on Thursday, March 20th from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and the funeral will be Friday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Wilkerson's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to an animal-related
charity of your choice or to the Council on Aging in Greenville, N.C.
When you left Steve's presence, he always used to teasingly say, "glad you got to see me," and we definitely are.
