Alice M. Rabenort Obituary
She was born Dec. 9, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo. She was raised by her adoptive grandparents, Edward L. and Mabelle Berwick Frank. She married Bert H. Rabenort in Galesburg on Oct. 7, 1957. He preceded her in death June 10, 1977.
She is survived by a son, Ronald (Mary) Rabenort of St. Louis, Mo.; a son-in-law, Charles Landon of Galesburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her daughter, Deborah Landon in April 22, 2004.
She was an instrumental music teacher for School District 205 for 35 years, retiring in 1985. She graduated from United Township High School in 1941. She graduated from Illinois State University in 1945 with a bachelor's degree in education. She moved to Galesburg in 1945. She was a member of the Business Professional Women's Club. She was a member of Sweet Adelines International since 1969 and a member of the Heart of Illinois Chorus in Peoria. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association and a member of the Illinois and Knox County Retired Teacher's Associations. She directed the American Legion Community Band and played in local summer bands. She was a member of the Rootabaga Jammers. She was a member of the Women's National Band Directors Association. She was a former member of Music Educators National Conference and Illinois Music Educators Association. She was a former member of Galesburg Community Chorus and the Knox/Galesburg Symphony. She was a member of Corpus Christ Catholic Church and directed the church choir for more than 20 years.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. Joseph Presley will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church to be distributed to the choir and Costa school band.
