David E. Mathers

1950 - 2019

NORTH HENDERSON - David Eugene Mathers, 69, North Henderson, died at 1:02 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

David was born Jan. 21, 1950, in Galesburg, the son of Eugene Edward and Patricia Jean (Clark) Mathers. He was raised and educated in North Henderson and the Alexis School District, graduating from Alexis High School in 1968. He later attended MacMurray College in Jacksonville before returning home to work on the family farm, which he did until his passing.

David married Rose Mary Taylor on Aug. 28, 1971, in Jacksonville. She survives.

He was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church and served on the board of Mt. Vernon Cemetery. He was also a Farm Bureau member for many years. David loved riding his Harley, sailing, visiting ocean beaches and vacationing with his family.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Melissa Mathers of San Francisco, Molly Jensen of Manassas, Virginia, David Edward Mathers of North Henderson and Katherine (John) Pierret of Manassas; four grandchildren, Andrew Jensen, Matthew Jensen, Logan Pierret and Marcus Pierret; his mother, Patricia Mathers of Galesburg; sister, Elizabeth (David) Timmons of Hampton; brother-in-law, Jay Brandenburg of Carlsbad, California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and his sister, Laura Brandenburg.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the North Henderson United Methodist Church, the Patriot Guard or Gift of Hope.
