Donald Schmalshof Obituary

AVON - Donald Eugene Schmalshof, 84, Avon, passed away at 9:15 p.m. Feb. 10, 2011, at home in Greenbush Township.
He was born Jan. 19, 1927, in Liberty, the son of Alberta and Russell Hopson. He married Lois Simmons on March 26, 1950, in Greenbush.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Susan Thompson of Texas and Brenda (Randy) Sensabaugh of Avon; two sons, Andy (Tammy) Schmalshof and David (Kate) Schmalshof, both of Avon; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Molly Bell of Abingdon. He also is survived by his two sisters, Marjorie (Rolland) Rodgers and Mary Turner; and his brother, Richard (Jean) Hopson, all of Roseville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A lifetime farmer, Mr. Schmalshof served as a Tompkins State Bank director, a member of the Greenbush Cemetery Board and 48 years as a volunteer fireman for the Avon Fire Department.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Corman Memorial Home in Avon, with burial in Greenbush Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Corman Memorial Home.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or the McDonough District Hospice in lieu of flowers. The guestbook may be signed at www.cormanmh.com.
