WATAGA - Douglas Shawn Roland Smith, 19, Wataga, died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2012, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born Aug. 18, 1992, in Park Rapids, Minn., the son of the late Patrick and Nina Detmers Smith. He was raised and educated in Wataga, attending ROWVA schools. His mother survives of Wataga. Preceding him in death were his father on March 8, 2012 and one brother, Joseph Smith.
Surviving are his brothers, Michael (Christie) Lynch of Westmont, Dustin C. (Miranda Copeland) Detmers of Knoxville and Garhart H. Smith of Wataga; his grandmother and stepgrandfather, Marie and Jay Hammond of London Mills; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents Roland and Rosemary Detmers and fraternal grandfather Leo Smith.
He enjoyed playing pool, fishing and camping. He enjoyed being with his family and friends and making new friends.
He worked in fast-food restaurants in the Galesburg area.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2012, in Maquon Cemetery, with the Rev. Michel D. Clark officiating. Celebration of life will be noon to 5 p.m. at Wataga Town Hall.
