Edna Setterdahl Obituary

NORTH HENDERSON - Edna H. Setterdahl, 95, rural North Henderson, died Thursday (July 10, 2008) at Marigold Health Care Center in Galesburg. Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor. Burial will be in the Green Pastures Cemetery on the Setterdahl Farm, rural Rio. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha, where memorials may be left to the AlWood Academic Foundation or Bethphage Mission. She was born Oct. 15, 1912, in Balaton, Minn., the sixth daughter of Peter and Anna Lundberg Nelson. Her early education was in a rural one room school which she completed by going to the small town of Balaton to finish her formal education graduating in 1931. She entered Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College and received a teaching certificate. She taught for two years and then returned to Minnesota for more formal education at Mankato State Teachers College. While there she met and married Glenn Setterdahl on Sept. 18, 1937, in Mankato where their oldest son Marvin was born. They moved to the family farm home in Rio, where they were blessed with two more sons, Rollin and Vernon. After 52 years of marriage, Glenn passed away in 1989.
She was active in her Lutheran Faith having been a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor where she sang in the choir, was Sunday School superintendent, was a member of WELCA and served on Church Council. In her later years she started an Adult Bible Class on Sunday mornings and attended a bi-weekly Bible Study. She was a teacher at AlWood schools for 12 years, was a member of the Rio Woman's Club and was a member of the Rio Unit of the Knox County Homemakers Extension.
She is survived by three sons, Marvin (Darlene) Setterdahl of Rio, Rollin (Connie) Setterdahl of Geneseo, and Vernon (Barbara) Setterdahl of Gilson; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, husband, one grandson and six sisters preceded her in death.
