Frederick Norris Obituary

GALESBURG - Frederick A. Norris Sr., 89, Galesburg, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, in the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.
He was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Princeton, the son of Wilton and Grace (Davis) Norris. He married Sarah A. Pendry on Nov. 13, 1971, in Maquon. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2008.
He is survived by a son, Frederick Norris Jr. of Amanda, Ohio; a daughter, Freda Norris of Panama City, Florida; two stepsons, Terry (and Mary) Pendry and Robert (and Kymm) Pendry, both of Galesburg; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Norris; two stepdaughters, Judy Mueller and Karen Pedigo; a grandson, Luke Norris; a brother, John Norris; and a sister, Margaret Sauter.
Fred worked for the Maytag Corporation for 19 years, before retiring in 1990. He had lived in Galesburg since 1937. He attended First United Methodist Church.
Fred served in the United States Army from 1948 to 1953.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate and military honors will be accorded. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to VFW 2257/Legion 285 Veterans Honor Guard. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is handling arrangements for the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
