Gloria Miller Obituary
Gloria Mae Miller
Round Rock - Gloria Mae Miller, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior February 26, 2021, in Round Rock, Texas.
Gloria was born in Aurora, IL on July 5, 1929, to William and Ora White. She was the second of four daughters and spent a lifetime loving and supporting her family in the Aurora area. She graduated from East Aurora High School in 1947 where she met the love of her life, James Miller. They dated for two years and then married on July 2, 1949. They spent 74 years together, married for 72, raising four sons, Gregg, Gary, Jeff and Jay. There was nothing more important to Gloria than her family and her God. She and Jim taught their children how to love the Lord, right and wrong, family values, how to care for others and how to give back to your fellowman. When the kids were gone, they decided to move away from Aurora and moved to Galesburg, IL. They spent seventeen years in Galesburg and forged many wonderful friendships in their neighborhood, church and on the golf course (Jim). In 2013, they decided to move again to Round Rock, TX, to be closer to two of their sons. Their time in Round Rock was spent enjoying family, minor league baseball games and their new church home, First Baptist Round Rock. Some of their fondest memories were traveling the country with their good friends, Bill and Betty Clark, visiting Youth Hostels from Maine to California. Gloria made scrapbooks from each and loved to share them with the grandkids. Gloria was a gifted musician, able to play the piano, organ and guitar by ear. If she heard it, she could play it.
Gloria had a variety of jobs while the kids were growing up, including the Northern Illinois Gas Company, Weil's ladies store and finally retired as the Business Manager of the Aurora YMCA. Gloria loved the Y and always reminisced about the many good times she had there. Jim and Gloria have continued to support the YMCA movement in Round Rock each year during their Annual Campaign.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband, James and her four sons: Gregg (Gail) Miller of Round Rock, TX; Gary (Peggy) Miller of Avon, IL; Jeff Miller of Daytona Beach, FL; and Jay (Joy) Miller of Cedar Hill, TX. Other family members include eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, as well as many other family members and dear friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother and father and her three sisters Carolyn, Coralee and Marie.
Gloria was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, family counselor, mentor, teacher, inspirational leader, musician and friend.
Our thanks to Seton Medical Center Round Rock for the incredible kindness, care and attention given to Gloria in her final days. The doctors, nurses, staff and hospice care could not have been more loving, attentive and understanding.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
