GALESBURG - Jason Chad Maulden, 16, of Galesburg, died at 8:34 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, following an automobile accident.
Jason was born Aug. 12, 1997, in Galesburg, the son of Barry Maulden and Keisa Cervantez.
Jason is survived by his mother, Keisa (Dustin) Henry of Galesburg; his father, Barry (Jeri Lynn) Maulden of Knoxville; maternal great-grandmother, Frances Cervantez; maternal grandmother, Carrie Cervantez; paternal grandmother, Rose (Jack) Crane; two brothers, Zach and Tanner Maulden, both of Knoxville; a sister, Hannah Maulden of Knoxville; and two step siblings, Austyn and Claire Henry, both of Galesburg. He is also survived by two aunts, Tianna Cervantez and Virgie Walston; 13 uncles, Chris, Dan, Dylan, and Nic Cervantez, Chris and Clay Henry, Darrell, Laney, Russell, Ray, and Gary Maulden, Bob Bewley, and Jason Hoke; several cousins including Tavian Cervantez, Kadence and Grace Maulden; and his two closest friends, Nick Foster and Cal Morling. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Raymond Maulden; and his maternal grandfather, Steve Cervantez on Aug. 2, 2014.
Jason would have started his senior year at Galesburg High School this August. He was a very active student at GHS, belonging to CARE, G-Club, Spanish Club, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was an all conference member of the varsity baseball team and was a member of the Legion Post 285 baseball team. He was also a member of the varsity golf team. Jason loved to compete and have fun, his dodgeball team "Pineapple Express" was the reigning champs at GHS and was awarded the gold medal in the Rock, Paper, Scissors Olympics. He also loved to play backyard wiffle ball. Jason was an avid Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Reds fan.
Jason's faith in God carried him through life and into heaven. Jason will always be remembered for his smile and giving nature. Jason's family honored his life when they decided to have him become a Gift of Hope Home Run organ donor.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Galesburg High School Auditorium. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will follow from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be designated later. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
