Joan Morrissey Obituary

GALESBURG - Joan M. "Jody" Morrissey, 89, Galesburg, died at 8:12 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, in Galesburg.

Jody was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Monmouth, the daughter of Earl and Mearl (Stickle) Curry. She married John "Vince" Morrissey on June 19, 1954, at Corpus Christi Church in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on Sept. 18, 2012.

Jody is survived by two sons, Michael C. (spouse, Cris) Morrissey of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and John T. "Ted" (Melissa) Morrissey of Sherman; six grandchildren, Zack (Joanna), Ethan (Erin), Spenser (Michelle), Jarod (Chelsea), Brittany and Manhattan; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Ezra.

Along with her husband and parents, Jody was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.

Jody worked at Rowe Manufacturing before spending many years as a stay-at-home wife and mother. When her children were older, she returned to the workforce at Bergner's in the home decorating department, and then took a position in the Galesburg Clinic business office, where she worked for many years until retirement.

An avid golfer, Jody spent many years golfing at Bunker Links Golf Course in Galesburg. As a devout Catholic, Jody was a longtime and faithful member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She volunteered for several years at the St. Mary Hospital Gift Shop. She also enjoyed reading.

Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Father Jacob Rose will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Milk Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. So sorry for your loss, it's been 50 years or so but I still remember Jody's laugh and how she made me feel welcome. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Jody was a good friend and neighbor. She reached out to me when my mother passed away, and befriended me. She was very kindhearted and had a great sense of humor. I always enjoyed talking to her and I will miss her.
