Katherine Alstedt Obituary

NORMAL - Katherine "Kathy" H. Alstedt, 84, formerly of Galesburg, died June 26, 2020, in Normal.

Kathy was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Drs. Francis Marion and Virginia (Trelease) Huff. She was married to Edward Eugene "Gene" Alstedt for 63 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (and Patrick) Garner of Downers Grove and Marian (and Dave) Schulz of Bloomington; a son, Russell Alstedt of Arizona; one brother, Bob Huff of Galesburg; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, (Jim Huff).

Kathy moved to Galesburg in 1947 and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953. She attended Monmouth College. She worked for a number of years as a swimming instructor at the Galesburg Municipal Pool before starting a 21-year career at Hope Head Start. She retired in 2002.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg before moving to Normal in 2018. She was a member of Chapter MG of P.E.O. Sisterhood. She loved swimming, playing the piano, singing, reading poetry, bird watching, car trips and young children. She and Gene were foster parents for numerous children.

Cremation will be accorded. No visitation or service is planned. Her remains will be scattered, along with Gene's, in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Galesburg. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.
