Mary E. Leadbetter

1922 - 2015

GALESBURG - Mary E. Leadbetter, 92, Galesburg, died at 2:54 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, in the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Galesburg, the daughter of Herman W. and Hortense (Tyler) Talbert. She married Dallas O. Leadbetter on Sept. 27, 1941, in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1981.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Singleton of Etowah, North Carolina, and Arlene "Dena" Callison of Galesburg; two grandchildren, Teresa Lindsay of New Jersey and Kevin Callison of McDonough, Georgia; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends from Galesburg, North Carolina, Georgia, and Miami. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Herman J. Talbert.
Mary graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. She was a homemaker. She had lived in Etowah, North Carolina for two years and in Atlanta, Georgia, for five years before returning to Galesburg in 2008. Mary was responsible for the formation of the Widows and Widowers Group in 1981 and helped with that until 1999. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary loved to bowl and was in several leagues over the years.
In accordance with her wishes, Mary will be cremated. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday, March 20, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will follow the visitation at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating.
