Ray L. Dalton Obituary

GALVA - Ray L. Dalton, 83, Galva, formerly of Elmwood, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born April 29, 1928, in Maquon to Elmer and Nellie (Longwell) Dalton. He married Louise M. Dalton on April 12, 1953, in Elmwood. She preceded him in death in 1992. He later married Rozella Youngren on June 13, 1993, in Woodhull. She preceded him in death on Nov. 15, 2010.
He is survived by five stepchildren, Larry (Chris) Youngren of Woodhull, Les (Kim) Youngren of Princeton, Sharon Youngren of Batavia, Jean (John) Swenson-Whitaker of O'Fallon, Mo., and Julie Love of Stronghurst; his son-in-law, David Williams of Elmwood; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Melanie Williams; two brothers; and four sisters.
Ray was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II. He was an electrical engineer for CILCO and worked as manager of its Electric Apprentice School, retiring Jan. 1, 1990.
He was a member of Elmwood Kiwanis Club, Woodhull American Legion Post 546 and United Church of Woodhull. He was a former member of Elmwood American Legion.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood, with the Rev. Cheyanna Losey officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be in Elmwood Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to BYE Ambulance.
