Roger Brewer Obituary

MONMOUTH - Roger D. Brewer, 54, Monmouth, passed away at 4 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Monmouth Nursing Home.
He was born Oct. 14, 1955, in Mountain View, Ark., the son of Lonnie and Mary I. Looney Brewer. He was raised in Monmouth where he attended local schools and graduated with the class of 1973. Roger married Defrance I. Shawgo on Oct. 19, 1973, in Monmouth, and she survives.
Roger was one of the first employees of Alfano's Pizza when it came to town, locating on West Broadway. He later was employed at Western Stoneware and Glastex and then at Well's Pet Food, all in Monmouth. He lastly was employed at Maytag in Galesburg for a time. Roger loved his family and friends. He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and enjoyed country music. He also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Surviving is his wife, Defrance Brewer of Monmouth; one daughter, Kimberly Jo Brewer Carlson of Macomb; and one son, Justin Dale Brewer of Monmouth. Also surviving are his mother, Mary Irene Miller of Monmouth; three nieces, Sarah Bjorling of Oneida, Lesley Dawn Brewer in Alexis and Melissa (Aaron) Struble in Aledo; two nephews, Michael Dwane Brewer of rural Monmouth and Corey Bjorling in Oneida; a great-nephew, Joshua Struble in Aledo; his cousins, Shirley Taylor Day of Springfield and Sharon Kay (Rick) Weaver of Springfield; and his special friend, Beverly Jones and her family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Lonnie; twin brothers, Hubert Dwane and Herbert Wayne Brewer; father-in-law David Shawgo; and stepfather Finley Miller.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. Family will receive friends one hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monmouth Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for Huntington's Chorea Disease. For more information, visit www.turnbullfuneralhomes.com.
