Timothy Abernathy Obituary

Timothy Wayne Abernathy, 64, of La Fayette, died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Macomb, the son of Wayne and Doris Jennings Abernathy. He was reared and educated in the Galva and Peoria areas, graduating from Richwoods High School and attending Black Hawk East in Kewanee. He married Sharon K. Preston on Feb. 10, 1973, in Galva.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Sharon; two sons, Brad (Marlo) Abernathy of Galesburg and Kipp (Michelle Offill) Abernathy of Rock Falls; three grandsons, Zach Abernathy, Bryce Abernathy, Krayten Abernathy, and one granddaughter, Kieryn Abernathy. Also surviving are his parents, Wayne and Doris Abernathy of Galva; two sisters, Tina Abernathy and Tonya Abernathy, both of Galva; and aunts and uncles.
Timothy was a welder, working for the Aldrich Company in Wyoming, Illinois, for 23 years. He was a member of the La Fayette Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Timothy was a fan of the Chicago Bears, enjoyed growing tomatoes, fishing and spending time outdoors and was an avid music fan. He loved his family, his kids, grandkids and his dogs.
A celebration of life will be at noon Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the La Fayette United Methodist Church, 302 Franklin St., La Fayette. A fellowship will follow at the church. A private graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at the La Fayette Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
