Walter Hawkins Obituary
He was born Feb. 27, 1920, in Gerlaw to Fred W. and Alta House Hawkins. He married Melba Marie Logsdon on Feb, 25, 1943, in Coldbrook. She preceded him in death March 20, 1998.
Surviving are a son, Robert D. (and Barbara) Hawkins of Fenton; one brother, Ralph Hawkins of Galesburg; a sister, Velma Carlson of Alexis; two grandchildren, Robin (and Daniel) Moss and Daniel (and Cathy) Hawkins; four great-grandchildren, Robert Moss, Megan Moss, Caitlyn Hawkins and Nathan Hawkins; and a loving friend, Marge Swanson of Galesburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Walter was a petroleum salesman for Stockland Farm Service in Monmouth for several years and retired in 1985. He graduated from Alexis High School. He was a member of Coldbrook Christian Church.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Coldbrook Christian Church. Rev. Tim Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Coldbrook Christian Church.
