E. Ducci Obituary

THE VILLAGES, Florida - E. John Ducci, 90, of The Villages, Florida, passed away at home on April 30, 2012. Born on July 22, 1921 in Torrington, Connecticut, he was the son of the late John L. Ducci and Catherine M. (Avampato) Ducci and was a resident of Torrington for many years. He moved to The Villages from Palm Beach Gardens, FL in 2006.
A graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical School, John attended classes at the University of New Hampshire and worked in civil service at the Portsmouth Navy Yard before joining the U.S. Army in August, 1943. Having been transferred from Alabama to Oklahoma, he took classes at Oklahoma A&M prior to being shipped overseas with the 925th, where he served as a Technical Sergeant, electrical rating. Before receiving an honorable discharge in February, 1946, John earned several awards including two Bronze Stars. Upon returning home to Connecticut, John worked for two local electrical contractors, qualified as a Journeyman and Master Electrician, and earned a State Master Electrician`s License. Trading in the family car for a truck and storing electrical supplies in the basement of the new family house, John went into business for himself in August of 1949, catering to small jobs. With television becoming the rage in 1952, and the assistance of his former wife, the late Frances H. Ducci, who set up and performed all the bookkeeping, a showroom for television sets and appliances was built adjacent to the house and the company became known as the Ducci Electric Company. The company was awarded vast amounts of electrical work as a result of the August 1955 flood, became incorporated as a union shop in 1956, and eventually evolved into Ducci Electrical Contractors, Inc.
John was of the Catholic faith and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and culinary activities, but mostly he was an avid golfer who was very proud of achieving seven holes in one. He traveled to numerous places including Italy, Thailand, New Zealand and Africa enjoying the many sights and the people he met on his journeys.
John is survived by his wife, Sheila Ducci of The Villages, Fla.; sons, Richard M. Ducci and his wife Marianne of Litchfield, and William M. Ducci and his wife Donna of New Hartford; daughters, Elaine and her husband Paul Dinto of Danbury, and Paula and her husband Len Scaffidi of Summerfield, N.C.; step daughter, Lisa Webber of Lady Lake, Fla.; brother J. Edward Ducci of Litchfield; sister Shirley Kaczmarczyk of Torrington; four grandchildren, Richard J. Ducci and his wife Judy of Canton, Michael J. Scaffidi of Nashville, Tenn., Jacqueline A. Ducci and her husband Don McGlynn of Canton, and John W. Ducci of Torrington; step granddaughter, Nicole Webber of Lady Lake, Fla.; great granddaughter, Lauren Ducci of Canton; step great granddaughter Emma Webber of Lady Lake, FL.
Friends may call at the Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington, on Thursday, May 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield, CT. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice for The Villages, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32162.

Dick, Marianne, and all the Ducci family, I am so sorry for your loss. While I never had the opportunity to know him as an adult, I have very fond memories of John from when I was a little girl. In your time of grieving, try to take some comfort in the knowledge that he is in a better place now. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to all of you.

Bill- sorry to hear the news about your father. My most vivide memory of him is having the biggest, heaviest pony skin golf bag to carry around for 18 holes. Caddied for him a few times and my shoulder is still sore.

Jane and I send our condolences to you and the family.
