Hazel Simons Obituary

WINSTED - Hazel Stetson Simons, 93, formerly of 80 Oak Street, passed away on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at Laurel Hill Health Care, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Philip Greene who was killed in action during WW II, and the late Donald Simons who died in 2001. Born in Readsboro, Vt., Oct. 25, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Evelyn (Fairbanks) Stetson and had lived in Winsted since 1928.
Prior to her retirement, she had been the executive secretary for the Town Manager in Winsted for over 10 years, had previously worked in various stores in town and was the bookkeeper for several different gas stations in town. During WW II she worked in the office of price administration in Hartford and several years after the war, for the Navy Dept. She was a graduate of The Gilbert School, class of 1935, member of the Winsted United Methodist Church, the McCarthy Senior Center, the Green Woods Chapter DAR and the AARP.
Her survivors include many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Milton, Walter and Frank Stetson and four sisters, Mildred Moore, Irene Micelli, Irene Stanton and Alice Fafford.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 10 a.m. at the Maloney Funeral Home 55 Walnut Street, with the Rev. Dr. Albert Miller officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Forest View Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Donald and Hazel Simons scholarship fund, C/O The Gilbert School, Williams Avenue, Winsted, CT 06098.

My prayers and condolances are with you all. We loved Hazel and Don at the Winsted Methodist Church. They were so touched when my son Randy would stop by and play his guitar and sing. I loved watching them help each other fix their tea. Memories are wonderful things. Blessings, Carol Hague
