1933 - 2016

SHERMAN, JOAN C. SOREL: 1933-2016 Winchester - Joan C. Sorel Sherman, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday July 27, 2016. Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Maurice “Moe” Sherman after 61 years of marriage. Joan was the daughter of Amelia (Bedard) Sorel and Leonidas Sorel. She lived in New Hartford, CT until her marriage then spent the rest of her life in Winsted, CT. Joan worked at the Gilbert Clock Shop for many years, Ovation Guitar, Kaman Aircraft, D Ann Manufacturing and ATS. She loved spending time with her family, which was a very special part of her life always commenting that she started our family with 2 children but also considered her son-in-law and daughter-in-law as her children also. She then had 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson that called her Nana and Bunny. She always asked about each one and how they were. She will be truly missed by all. Joan is survived by her daughter, Donna (Sherman) Ensminger and husband Robert of Winchester; a son, Lawrence (Larry) Sherman and his wife Marta of Torrington; 6 much loved grandchildren, Brenda (Ensminger) Tracy and husband Keith of Winsted, Michele (Ensminger) Sindland and husband Steve of West Hartland, Wendy Sherman and fiancée Cliff of Winsted, Jason Ensminger and wife Krystal of Winchester, Heather (Sherman) Ianacone and husband Matthew of Harwinton and Sean Sherman and wife Angelica of Kansas; 14 great grandchildren, Patrick, Jonathan, Alexis, Samantha, Danielle, Trinity, Dylan, Matthew, Makayla, Ethan, Noah, Chelsea, Bryleigh and Madeleine; and 1 great great grandson, Oliver. Joan also leaves sister-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Angel. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted from 10 AM – 12 PM with a funeral service at the noon with Pastor Douglas Aldrich officiating.
