Joan was a member of the Ephraim Kirby #75 Order of the Eastern Star of Winsted, and later Torrington, for over 50 years. Along with being a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Joanie served the local community as an RN at both Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for more than 10 years and Winsted Memorial Hospital for 22 years, from where she retired in 1993. Her commitment to her family and her career, in addition her gentle and loving spirit, defined her. Joan made those that were blessed to know her, or be in her company, feel special. Having only a kind word for all she met, Joanie was admired by many friends, and co-workers as well. She enjoyed watching her bird feeders from her windows, daily.
