Benjamin Bochner Obituary

Benjamin Evan Bochner of Eugene, Oregon, passed away surrounded by friends and family on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the age of 61.

He was born May 22, 1956 in Evanston, Illinois, the eldest child of Sheldon Bochner and the late Sandra Bochner. Although a proud Chicagoan, Ben set down roots in Eugene, a community that he loved and his home for the past thirty-three years. Always dedicated to living life to its fullest, Ben pursued his varied interests as a professional tree climber, videographer, writer, and singer-songwriter. But above all else, he was a loving and dedicated father.

Ben's outsized personality left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was infamously known as the "Rogue Reader" as a member of Ken Kesey's group writing project at the University of Oregon which resulted in the novel, Caverns. In recent years, Ben focused full-time on his songwriting and released several albums of original music. He was a finalist in a number of categories at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and performed at the Seattle Bumbershoot Festival, the Oregon Country Fair, and the Willamette Valley Music Festival, where he won the New Song Contest.

He is survived by his daughter Shoshana, his father Sheldon, and brothers Michael, Ronald, Daniel and Craig. He was fortunate to share his life with Ramona McCoy and her son Austin Munsell, as well as Robin Epstein, mother of Shoshana.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at The Village School, 3411 Willamette Street, Eugene, OR on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at 3:00pm.

Oh dear brother, I'm so sorry I missed your concert here. I feel truly blessed having gotten to know you and jam with you! I will treasure your coffee mug always, and keep it full for you. I finally learned "unknown blessings", and will spread it far and wide.

May your journey take you to a wonderful place, and remember to follow the bright lights intense though they may be!

With all my love and blessings...

A sad surprise indeed. Heart goes out to Shoshana and all who shared his life and love. We will miss seeing him and catching up on his current endeavors! A saying he had printed onto a foam core sticker that hung our wall for so many years.. "HATS WHAT HATS!" In memory, We are encouraged to take the example and share a smile and love and embrace our creativity.

What a sad surprise to read of Ben's passing. I was fortunate to know Ben through his outstanding videography. He was excellent at that, but so much more to my office. He was humorous, bright, and had a real respect for people. I will try very hard to attend tomorrow's service. My condolences to his family and Mona.
