Christine Whitley Obituary

Christine S. Whitley of Eugene passed away on June 27th with her family by her side. As per her request, a private family service was held. She fought a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Hers was a rare type of breast cancer that is difficult to diagnose. She would encourage all women to strongly advocate for yourself if after normal testing you still feel something is wrong.

Christine was born November 9th 1953 to Robert and Lita Gunn in Pomona, CA. She graduated from Ganesha High School in 1971.

Christine was intelligent, beautiful, mischievous, funny and brave. Her greatest joy in life was that she saw her children married and her grandchildren born. She enjoyed camping, walks on the beach or by a river. Her great love of animals was a driving force in her life. If she saw an animal that was hungry she would feed it, if it were hurt she would try to mend it. She took great pride in her uncanny ability to jinx her son-in-law's deer hunts.

Survivors include her father Robert Gunn of Diamond Bar, CA; her mother Lita Gunn of Walker, CA; brother Jack Gunn of Colorado; husband David Whitley of Eugene; son Jacob Shaw of Creswell; daughter Summer Williams of Harrisburg and five grandchildren: Ryan Mulcahy, Brendan Williams, and triplets Henry, Benjamin and Stella Shaw.

You made me feel special from the day of my birth....a birthday we both share, and after being out of touch for many years, the first thing you tell me is "Hey Denise. This is your cousin "Chris"tine. Have thought about asking to "friend" you for a bit now. Did you know that the day you were born, I thought you were my 8th birthday present?".....I always remembered and always will !
