Such a warm heart and wonderful personality. Our family were friends of Dave's family growing up and attended South Eugene a year behind Dave. But the one day that I remember so vividly was 1968. I had returned from /viet Nam and sent to Fort Ord, Ca. Forty five days later I received orders to go back. With a little help I added a 30 day leave to the orders, so when I reported to Fort Lewis, Wa. the Army thought I was AWOL, Only my paperwork had the 30 day leave. I was ordered to report the the 525 Replacement company to await my fate. I entered the orderly room and announced my presence, and wondering what am I doing there. From the back room a loud voice yells, Lee Hubbard, is that you? I was so relieved to have a friendly voice cal out my name. Well Dave went to work and talked the Company Commander in assigning me to this same outfit. Instead of going back to Nam I was put in charge of a pool table, shuffle board table and a television, Thanks to wonderful Dve Hamaker, I coasted my last year of enlistment. Dave I know the golf courses in Heaven are just for you. God Bless you for helping a tired Nam vet from going back. Your family was truly blessed to have him in your life.
