David Russell Johnson, 37, of Springfield, Oregon, passed away November 2, 2016, at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, from liver cancer.

David was born July 10, 1979 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Grant and Linda Johnson of Sugar City, Idaho. David is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He is also an Eagle Scout, a dependable and hardworking, genuinely happy and loving guy. He graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in 1997 and served a mission in the Philippines, Tacloban Mission from 1998 to 2000. Upon his return home, he met and then married his best friend, Melissa Ann Piepgrass, August 2, 2001 in the Portland, Oregon LDS Temple.

David graduated from BYU-I with a Bachelor's of Nursing degree. He has worked as an ICU nurse at EIRMC in Idaho Falls, ID and Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, OR, for the last 10 years. David has also been actively involved with the Scouting program - both for the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts - and in his many Church callings and Community programs. David had a passion for his family, cooking, woodworking and the outdoors. He loved his work in the ICU unit and had many trusted and loyal friends.

David is survived by his wife, Melissa, and their children: Andrew, Ellie, Sarah, Kimmy, all of Springfield, Oregon. His parents, Grant and Linda Johnson, siblings: Brian (and Keiko) Johnson; Randy (and Malena) Johnson; Lisa (and Dan) Adams; Amy (and Allan) Christean; and also his in-laws, Chris and Laurie Piepgrass; Ben (and Lily) Piepgrass; KC Piepgrass; and Jenna Piepgrass.

David is preceded in death by a stillborn son, Logan, and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS Thurston building at 525 N. 66th St. in Springfield, on November 12, 2016 at 10:00 am. A viewing will be held at Springfield Memorial Funeral Home at 7305 Main St. Springfield, on November 11, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
