Evan Murdoch Obituary

Evan William Murdoch
With the deepest sorrow and regret we announce the death of our beloved middle son, Evan William Murdoch. Evan was born in Eugene on August 26, 1980. He was 40 years old when he ended his life sometime during the week of March 29, 2021.
Evan was a life-long resident of Eugene. He attended Patterson Elementary and graduated from Churchill Alternative High School in 1997. He grew up snowboarding at Willamette Pass, fishing the Willamette, Umpqua and Siuslaw rivers, and boogie boarding at the Oregon Coast. A lefty, he was a gifted athlete who won awards easily though he did not enjoy competition. As a teenager, Evan took to riding motorcycles and fixing engines. He was a Chevy guy and drove his white 1968 Chevy ¾ ton pickup for many years with his brindle boxer Molly as co-pilot. He began working for Ivy Hi-Lift as a teen and had a 20-year career as a mechanic and field service rep with Sunbelt Rentals in Eugene and Albany.
Evan was a quiet, kind, hard-working, humble man who had lots of friends. He liked staying in the background and playing a supporting role in many lives. He was always willing to help out a friend or person in need. Honesty and loyalty, even if it cost him, were his trademarks.
He is survived by his two extraordinary daughters, Emily Murdoch and Grace Cotto. He was extremely proud of them and wished he could have been more present in their lives. He is also survived by his older brother Andy, his younger brother Craig, and his parents, Bill and Kitty Murdoch.
Due to the Covid pandemic, a memorial gathering will be delayed until a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Greenhill Humane Society in Eugene, Oregon.

I am so sorry for your loss. I just read what was written above and you guys pin pointed exactly how I remember Evan. I hadn't seen Evan since I was a teen. We talked a few yrs ago and tried to get together and it didn't work out. I wish it so had.
I remember him driving back in the early 90s giving us younger more immature kids rides to places in his big truck blasting Metallica. He always wore Levi jeans and plaid button down shirts, loved heavy metal (especially Metallica), and was always the sweetest one around, and extremely loyal. I saw some pics of him in his late 30s and he looked exactly the same and always had the same style since he was a wee one. He always knew who he was, unlike most teens who go through a lot of stages trying to find themselves.
I remember I thought I was pretty good at snowboarding at 15 and I invited Evan to go with a friend and me....I had no idea that he was the best snowboarder on the entire mountain!! The 1st run I looked behind me thinking I better wait....I didnt see him until I turned back around and saw him way up on the side of the mountain.--He was actually flying through the area nobody goes and then sliced down the side of the mountain to me doing jumps and 360s. He just wasn't the type to brag about himself and I absolutely loved that about him. As im older I appreciate that even more.
I've lost a few friends in my life, but this childhood friend of mine hurt the most. The world lost a rare amazing soul.

We are so sorry for your loss, Murdoch family. You have been on our hearts and minds every day. Evan's brother Andy is one of my brother's dearest lifelong friends, and although I had not seen Evan in many years, I remember them all running around when we were kids like it was yesterday. May he rest in peace, and the love that surrounds you all help get you through this unimaginably difficult time.
