James Kirk Dutton

1940 - 2013

He was born in Medford on November 16, 1940 to an Oregon pioneer family that traveled on the Applegate Trail and settled originally in the Eugene area in 1846. Jim's parents were Donald Montague Dutton and Flora Livonia Jenkins.

Jim grew up in North Bend/Coos Bay. He graduated from North Bend High School in 1959 where he achieved distinction as a National Merit scholar and was awarded a prestigious US Bank scholarship. After earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Oregon in 1965, Jim began a business banking career with US Bank which spanned 30 years. His last position was as Vice President, Eugene Area Manager. In 1991, Jim started a new mortgage loan company, Home Loan Services, which he ran successfully for 12 years with his wife, Cheryl. In 2003, Jim retired and enjoyed playing golf, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, researching family genealogy, reading, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Springfield Golf Club for many years and was active in club activities.

Jim married Dannette L. Knowles on February 22, 1964 in North Bend. She passed away on September 12, 1993. They had two children, Susan Calderon and Kirk Dutton. Jim married Cheryl Ann Gauthier on November 30, 1996 in Eugene. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Susan (Dr. Raoul Calderon) of West Linn; son, Kirk Dutton (Brenda) of Pleasant Hill; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013 at Sunset Hills Cemetery, 4810 Willamette St., Eugene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Green Hill Humane Society.
