James Heaphy Obituary

James Heaphy

James R. Heaphy, 74, of Eugene, OR and formerly of Fairfield, CT, died on Tuesday, Nov 28, 2017 in Springfield, OR. Born and raised in Bridgeport, CT the son of the late William A. and Edna May (Tobin) Heaphy, he attended St. Augustine's School, Bassick H.S., and Sacred Heart University. He served with great pride and honor in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1961-68, including a tour of duty in Okinawa, and several years in Philadelphia, PA and Santa Ana, CA. After the Marines, he worked as a computer programmer for many years for the City of Bridgeport, S.N.E.T., and Perkin Elmer Corp. A kind and gentle family man, he would immerse himself in various projects around the house and yard. He was an avid SCUBA diver, handball player, and maker of holiday gingerbread houses that were quite remarkable. In his younger days, he enjoyed his GTO, and his dogs.

Jim is survived by 2 daughters; Melissa Heaphy of Monroe, CT and Christina Heaphy Moore and her husband Wayne of Eugene, OR, the mother of his children, Diane McClure and her husband Bruce of Fairfield, CT, a brother William J. Heaphy of Brunswick, ME and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother David, and elder brother Robert.

Memorial services and burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford, CT will be held in CT at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to: the Juvenile Diabetes Assoc, or Toys for Tots. For Jim's online guestbook, please go to:

I was a co-worker with Jim in the Perkin-Elmer Telecommunications department. Jim was not just a co-worker but also a friend during the time we worked together. My sincerest prayers go out to Jim and his family. Rest in peace hopefully you can reserve a racket-ball court for us and let me win one game
