James Paddock Obituary

James Lee Paddock
James Lee Paddock (Jamie) was born to James and Evelyn Paddock on September 12, 1948, and passed away on March 16, 2021, at his home in Eugene with his family by his side.
Jamie was born in Eugene, and graduated from North Eugene High School in 1966. While there, he played football, baseball and basketball, laying a foundation for his lifelong love of team sports. Following high school, Jamie served in the U.S. Coast Guard for two years, during which time he worked on an iceberg cutter in Greenland and played on the Coast Guard baseball team.
In the 1970s, he founded Paddock Masonry and quickly became a well-respected member of the local construction community. His craftsmanship can be seen throughout Eugene on large-scale commercial projects and countless residential masonry works. Later in his career, Jamie became a general contractor and a residential developer.
His most cherished creation was the brick house he built on the rural property he and his wife Susan own in Southwest Eugene. There, they turned 40 acres of undeveloped land into a home and farm for their six kids. Over the years, he enjoyed raising dozens of horses and dairy goats and tending to his vegetable garden. Jamie loved nothing more than spending time with his family in this very special place. He truly appreciated Oregon's natural beauty, and had a special affinity for the Oregon Coast.
Jamie passed along his passion for sports to his kids and grandkids, and was a familiar face on the sidelines of their softball, basketball and baseball games. He coached many of their teams, and is fondly remembered as a fun and encouraging leader. He also loved playing golf and watching the Oregon Ducks—he was a particularly avid fan and supporter of the women's basketball program.
Jamie was a longtime member of the Eugene Meditation Group of Self Realization Fellowship, and was guided by principles of positivity, generosity and kindness. He modeled these principles in his daily life and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same. He is greatly missed and dearly loved by many. Jamie is survived by his wife Susan, children Erin, Tyler, Dane, Amy, Rachel and Nicole and 10 grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity in his memory. The family would like to thank everyone who has already expressed their condolences.
