Jane Grimaldi Obituary

March 18, 1953 -
July 31, 2017

Jane Grimaldi of Eugene, Oregon, passed away on July 31, 2017. She was born March 18, 1953 in New York City, New York to parents Frank and Camille Pinto Grimaldi. She is survived by her brother, Richard Grimaldi, his wife, Megan Clark, and cousins from New York and Cerignola, Italy.

Jane was an exceptional violist who played professionally and taught viola and violin. She had an incredible ability to feel her music throughout her body. She studied at the Hartt School of Music, the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts, SUNY and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, as well as other studies too numerous to mention. She performed in the New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, the Oakland Opera Orchestra, Berkeley, Marin, San Jose and Oakland Symphonies; Long Island Symphony, Southwest Florida Symphony, and the Sarasota Opera Orchestra. Jane also played in many music festivals and performed solo recitals in chamber music ensembles in Philadelphia, Denver, Hartford: Blue Hill, Maine: Siena, Italy; and the San Francisco Bay area.

Jane was multi-talented in other areas as well. She was a singer, artist, thinker, humorist, and all around unforgettable character. She left an indelible impression on anyone who knew her. She valiantly struggled with bipolar illness, all of her adult life. When she couldn't hold her viola any longer due to Parkinson's, she expressed herself through painting. Jane died of renal failure. She was lovingly cared for by the staff at Gateway Living in Springfield, Oregon.

I knew Jane while living in San Francisco. She and I had great fun and lots of laughs together.
Also much enjoyed the very entertaining company of Jane's mother Camille.
Jane was one of the funniest gals I've ever known. She was quick witted and full of mischievous insights!
Loss touch after she moved to Eugene.
She always talked admirably about her brother. I am so sorry to
that she will no longer be here with us. She played beautifully!
Best Regards to Janes loved ones.

Was looking through old Facebook messages and came across our last conversation. I feel crushed to see that she passed away. We were violists together in a summer program in our teenage years. Don't know if a message here gets passed on to family. I feel such a sense of a friendship that I failed to keep up with as we lived our lives but Facebook allowed us to briefly reconnect just a few years before I now see that Jane passed.

Sending light and love to Jane's brother Richard and his caring spouse Megan. I'm sorry I never met Jane nor heard her beautiful music. I'm sure she enriched the lives of so many and will be dearly missed.

Jane, you will be dearly missed. Your beaming smile, quick wit, tenacity and most of all, your beautiful viola music and paintings. Be at peace now, lovely lady.

I remember Jane from riding the Lane Transit District bus in Eugene. She was a very kind and sweet person. I knew she said she played the viola but I never knew how talented she was until I read her notice. I believe we've lost a wonderful person and I hope she has gone straight to Heaven. God Bless her.
