Joan GaNung Obituary

Joan passed away on her 80th birthday. She was born February 28th 1938 in New Munich, MN to Hubert and Sally Wieber, the oldest of 7 kids. She moved to San Diego, CA in 1961 where she met Art GaNung. In 1962, they married and moved to Los Angeles where they had 3 kids. Joan was a stay at home mom for many years. In 1979, after a divorce, she moved the family to Eugene, near her good friend. She worked as the bookkeeper at the local Boy Scout office for over 20 years. She remarried Art in 2004 and joined him in Southern CA. After she developed Alzheimer's, they moved back to OR in 2015. She spent her last year in memory care.

Joan was very loving and caring. She was a great cook and loved to read about nutrition & natural healing. She was involved with her church. She was smart, had a great memory and excelled at games & puzzles. She enjoyed her grandchildren. She is greatly missed. We are consoled that she is in a better place with a clear mind again!

She is survived by husband, Art GaNung; children: Mike GaNung (Elizabeth) of Vista, CA; Karen King (Randy) & Julie GaNung of Eugene; grandchildren: Justin & Austin Mish, and Matthew, Laura & Andrew King; siblings: Kathy Wenker, Gail Wieber, Mary Forsythe, John Wieber & Joseph Wieber and their families.

A memorial & luncheon will be held in the Garden Room at First Baptist Church of Eugene on April 7th at 12:15pm.

I'll remember Joan from working with her at the Boy Scout office. She would greet me with her warm smile, and always her morning cup of coffee in hand. She was tender hearted and a good friend. Joan was a fiscal conservative and was part of the BSA team who made Oregon Trail Council accountable and successful for youth and volunteeers.
