Joseph Schmidt Obituary
Joe was born November 17, 1952 to Smitty and Judy in Lebanon, Oregon. He passed away on May 18, 2016 as the result of a motorcycle accident in Woodburn, Oregon.
Joe spent the early part of his life in Sweet Home, Oregon until the family moved to Junction City in 1966. Joe graduated from Junction City High School in 1971. In 1973 Joe joined the Army and was stationed in Germany.
Joe attended Lane Community College and started his career as a drafter. He worked in the RV industry for much of his career and the last several years worked for Gem Equipment in Woodburn. Throughout the years Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, reading and riding his Harley whenever he could.
Joe is survived by his mother, Judy; Sisters: Debra Hogan and brother-in-law Kingsley; Dana Bassett and brother-in-law Mike; nephews and nieces: Shane, Shawn and Casey Hogan, Bonnie Dalebout, McKenna and Zach Coppel; great-nephew and nieces: Braden and Katelyn Fiducia and Rosalie Hogan.
Joe is preceded in death by his dad, Smitty.
Joe was a free spirit, told a great story, had an artistic talent, beautiful blue eyes and a contagious smile. Joe was our beloved son, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed. Words cannot describe the loss we all feel.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Emerald Park in Eugene at 2:00.

When Joe started school there was a problem about his name. He told the teacher his middle name was "Flea"!
After a meeting between teacher and Joe's Mom, a realization dawned. When Aunt Judy called Joe, she'd say his full name Joseph Lee Schmidt!!! Which, to little Joe, sounded like Jose-Flea Schmidt!!

Pam and Dick Jones....even as a baby Joe's smile was wide open! I think the open smiled emoticon was copied from Joe! And I remember that he told a teacher his middle name was "Flea!" Our son Danny was born on November 17 also. Our hearts are with you in your grief.
