Kenneth Keefe Obituary

January 30, 1930 -
August 21, 2015

Ken Keefe, beloved husband, grandfather, step-father, bother, and uncle, quietly passed into the loving arms of his Father on August 21, 2015. Born on January 30, 1930, in Langsford, North Dakota, to Edward and Alice Keefe, Ken called Oregon his home since 1939. Ken graduated from Junction City High School as an accomplished athlete in 1949 and shortly thereafter was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Japan and Korea for two years. Following the army he was a meat cutter before becoming a real-estate investor which he continued until his death.

After the death of his first wife Marilyn Hoidal, Ken married Florence Haag in 1997, instantly becoming a grandfather, having no previous children of his own. With Flo he continued a tradition established in 1980 of wintering in Sun City, Arizona.

Ken was a life-long Nazarene. One of his passions was planning bus tours for seniors, going to gospel concerts, touring Christmas lights, and more. He also participated in Work and Witness trips with friends from church. Among the countries he worked in are: Amsterdam, Equador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Africa, Austria, Buddapest, Mexico, Italy, The Azores, Islands of Portugal, and Alaska.

Ken also enjoyed going on cruises. He and Flo cruised the Baltics, Mexico, Panama, France, Canada, Ireland, Hawaii, Australia, Russia, China, and South America. It was on his last cruise that Ken seemed to cough a lot, and was then diagnosed with lung cancer.

Ken had many talents, especially golf, where he took pride in this three holes-in-one. He was also a talented swimmer, and was awarded a gold medal from the Senior Olympics. Ken also enjoyed playing cards, doing magic tricks for kids, and going to buffets!

Ken was a fun and kind hearted man who became friends with everyone he met. He is survived by his wife Flo, her two children, Jeff Haag (Cheri), and Tina Rhue (Jonathon), three grandchildren, his brother Leon, niece Debbie Franklin, and several cousins.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, September 4, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Eugene, Oregon. The church is located at 8th and Madison, and all are welcome to come and celebrate his life.

In his memory, donations may be made to the Ken and Flo Keefe Scholarship Fund at Northwest Nazarene University.
