93 years old of Junction City, OR, Mahlon passed away on January 17, 2015. He was born March 1, 1921 in Willamette, OR to Mahlon R. Snidow, Martha Schwerin Snidow.
The family moved to Florence, OR when he was 14 yrs old. This is where he met his future wife Betty Chandler in High School.
He played football at Siuslaw High School and received a scholarship for football to Pacific College in Forest Grove. He played football and attended college for 2 years. Left college and joined the Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was engaged in the battle at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal.
He came back from the War and started his own construction company. At the age of 50 he worked for the YMCA at Camp Orkila on Orcas as Superintendant of maintenance. He and Betty lived there 12 yrs. They enjoyed everyday up at the farm on Orcas.
Mahlon enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved the outdoors and spending time with good friends and telling stories.
He is survived by his children Marsha McCord, Mike (Wendy) Snidow. Five grandchildren: Kimberly McCord, Kevin McCord, Luke (Sasha) Snidow, Karen (Isaac) Stott and Cody (Angela) Snidow. Eight great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of life will be on Jan 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm at 395 Juniper, Junction City, Oregon.

This is a sad moment in life for me. I had the honor and privilege to know and work with Mahlon during his time at Orkila. He was a fantastic man, who taught me alot about life. To this day, I still use alot of his one line philosophies. He had a few of them. I will be forever grateful of my time spent with Mahlon. May he rest in peace, and be remembered always as a man of honor, leadership, humor, and humanity. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
