Norma McNutt Obituary

Norma May Skeie McNutt

Norma May Skeie McNutt passed away May 12th at age 101, of natural causes. She was born August 29, 1915 in Roundup, Montana, the third of three children born to Ole Larsen Skeie and Anna Rogne Skeie who had emigrated from Norway in 1906. The family moved to Eugene in 1922, where Norma's father started Skeie's Jewelers.

Norma attended Eugene schools and the University of Oregon, majoring in Home Economics and pledging Alpha Omicron Pi before leaving to marry the love of her life, R.E. "Bill" McNutt, in 1935. In 1940, they moved to a farm near Harrisburg, OR, for ten years before building a home on College Hill in Eugene. Norma is survived by her four children: Bob (Mary Ellen), Molly (Tom), JP (Margaret), Mike (Patti), and eleven grandchildren and twelve-and-a-"half" great-grandchildren.

Norma was active in the Junior League and enjoyed volunteering at the League's Thrift and Gift Shop. She and Bill were members of Eugene Country Club and in recent years Norma enjoyed being the oldest member there. She was a long-time, committed member of Central Lutheran Church of Eugene. After Bill's retirement, he and Norma bought a condominium in Palm Desert, CA where they spent winters enjoying golf as members of the La Quinta and Marrakesh Country Clubs. They celebrated 68 years of marriage shortly before Bill's death in 2003.

Norma was always dressed to perfection, including jewelry and a purse and shoes to match every outfit. Only in her hundredth year did she stop wearing heels, and then only by doctor's orders. She was never sighted in a pair of "blue" jeans, never missed her weekly hair appointment, and never had a gray hair. Her sense of fun included dressing up as a Hells Angel for Halloween. She loved to cook and entertain. She and Bill were fortunate to travel all over the world in their later years. She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren who always looked forward to visiting her and her big stash of candy.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Cascade Manor for their loving care of their mother in her final years. At her request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute to Pearl Buck Center or the Eugene Mission.
