Rachel Corrie Obituary

In Memory

April 10, 1979 -

March 16, 2003

Rachel Corrie, 23, Evergreen State College senior and International Solidarity Movement activist, refused to remain passive in the face of injustice. She was crushed by an Israeli Caterpillar bulldozer while defending a Gaza pharmacist's home from demolition, one of over 27,000 illegally destroyed by Israel. Rachel is survived by her parents Craig and Cindy Corrie, denied justice under Israeli law, who established the Rachel Corrie Foundation; her sister Sarah and brother Chris; and many hundreds of others following her path to secure freedom, justice and equality for Palestinians including Eugene's Al-Nakba Awareness Project.

Rachel, you are remembered and will continue to be honored for your courageous stand for all those victims of an Israeli government and its military that continue to oppress an entire people. May your parents and family take comfort with the knowledge that your name has become synonymous with hope and struggle. Someday, justice will be done and you will always be a part of achieving that future goal of equality and freedom -- for all people. Rachel Corrie - Presente!
