Raymond Cellers Obituary

Raymond Lee Cellers passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017. Ray was born July 16, 1934 to William and Mina Cellers in Upton, Wyoming. When he was very young, the family moved to Drain, Oregon. He attended Drain schools where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball before joining the Navy in 1950. Ray was a veteran of the Korean war. He went on to join the Air Force and then the Air Force Reserve.

Ray settled in California and worked for the state Employment Department where he met Betty Abbey. He helped her find work and married Betty in 1964. They had two children, Abby Cellers and Leta Tillitt.

In 1981 Ray moved back to Drain to be closer to his parents. He raised sheep, chickens, goats and a few cows on the family property. Ray and Betty had several antique and second hand stores until retiring in 2012.

Ray loved antiques, woodworking, baseball, football, animals, fishing and being outdoors. He is survived by his wife Betty of Eugene, Oregon, older brother Robert Cellers and Karin Acuna of Palmer, Alaska, daughters Abby Cellers and Leta and James Tillitt of Eugene, Oregon and nephews, nieces and cousins.

There will be a small service at Lane Memorial Gardens Monday, December 18 at 2:00 pm.

He liked to try new things. Growing up we tried shrimp cocktails, fondue, (exotic when you´re 6 years old) he bought a VCR when they first came out, took a digital photography class...always looking for something new.
