Steven Hoffman Obituary

Dr. Steven Richard Hoffman

1942 - 2015

With great sadness the family of Dr. Steven Richard Hoffman reports his passing on February 24, 2015 from a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Steve was born in San Francisco March 23, 1942 and spent his boyhood in Applegate (Oregon) graduating from Grants Pass High School in 1960. After commercial fishing in Alaska & working as a Fireman for Southern Pacific Railroad, he continued his studies at Shasta Community College, Oregon State University, American University, University of Maryland, and University of Vermont (PhD in Physics). After 27 years with IBM as an Engineer/Scientist, he became Academic Dean of Crowley's Ridge College in Paragould (Arkansas) and later Academic Dean and Instructor at Tillamook Bay Community College and Director of Tillamook Bay Estuary Partnership (Oregon).

Besides deep faith in God and devotion to family, his passions in life included teaching, music (especially playing trumpet), and making a positive difference in any work he undertook.

Steve is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Hoffman, their two children Annemarie Hoffman of Portland (Oregon), John Richard Hoffman and wife Jessica of Manhattan Beach (California), his mother Iva Hoffman of Eugene (Oregon), and brother Brigadier General Norman Hoffman and his wife Cindy of Eugene and their family. Steve is preceded in death by his father Arthur Leo Hoffman.

A private graveside burial was held at Mountain Home Cemetery in Lebanon (Oregon) and a memorial service for family and friends is planned for May.
