Thomas Woolley Obituary

Thomas Ray
Woolley

April 16, 1942 -
September 28, 2014

Tom Woolley was called away from us on Sunday, September 28th, 2014. He was born in Grants Pass, Oregon to Ray Woolley and Margaret Ashbaugh. He met the love of his life, Bonnie Sweider, and they married on December 6th, 1961. Their epic love story touched many lives and made a special impact on their son, Michael Woolley, and his wife of 24 years Veronica, and their daughter, Lorrie (Woolley) Normann, and her husband of 28 years, Eric Normann.

Affectionately known as Poppy, his legacy of love continues through their grandchildren Bryan Normann and his fiancé Devon, Brett Normann, Chelsie Woolley and McKenna Woolley. His countless nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones always knew that he was only a phone call away.

He was proud to be the oldest and only brother to his sisters: Linda Woolley (Dan Scott), Kathlyn Kight (Walt), Judy Seiffert (Steve) and Jan Woolley (Dave Proctor).

Besides the love and pride he held for his family he was honored to have been a Eugene Firefighter, a job he held for 26 years, until he retired in 1994. Always the consummate entrepreneur, he also had a successful carpet business, espresso business and limousine service.

Tom was the hardest working man we knew, but he always found time to pursue his passion for the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman he shared his love of the wild with all of his boys and his girls.

Tom never knew a stranger and was known to approach anyone and everyone to talk and brag about his family. Some of his best friends are people he met in line at the grocery store.

While the pain we all feel at his sudden passing is immeasurable, we know that there are just as many people rejoicing in his arrival.

A viewing is scheduled for Friday, October 3rd, 2014, 1pm-4pm at Musgrove Family Mortuary, 1152 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon 97401.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 10th, 2014, 2pm at West Lawn Park and Funeral Home, 225 S. Danebo Avenue, Eugene, Oregon 97402

Although Tom was married to my 1st cousin, Bonnie, I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him as my life for the past 45 years brought me to the East coast. When we met at a family reunion in Lakeside,OR a few years ago I found him to be very generous with his time and his love for Bonnie was undeniable. My husband and I want to express our deepest sympathy to Bonnie and her family. Please know you will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I met Tom as our limo driver. He was so nice, and showed us such a great time, that we ended up scheduling an annual trip with him every year.
He was the kindest person and super funny. We all enjoyed his humor so much. We also loved his handlebar moustache! I will miss him very much.
I am so sad and so sorry for your family's loss. Sending hugs and love.

Well we first became friends when we moved to Eugene on Orr Lane he was a fire man and a good friend . I was a mother that couldn't handle blood and had a kids that was getting hurt all the time Tom would take care of them or load them up in the car and tell me get in the car and he would take the kid in the room and tell me to sit in the waiting room. another time I decided to change the door knobs on a door and got locked in the room he had to hand me tools to take the whole door off (we had a window that he could give me the tools). The whole family are loved by many people and he well be missed by many people. Bonnie and Lorrie, Mike and all the rest of the family God has a plan for him to help people in heaven. God bless all of you.

Bonnie,Lorrie,Eric,Brian,and Brett,
I wish had more opportunities to have known your husband, father and grandfather. Even though the meetings with him were short, you could feel his "aura" was as big as they come. His happy nature and love this man exuded was tangible..even when paying for a couple of plumbing items! One felt better for having been in his presence. I like to think that while our loved ones are not in our physical world, they are forever in our lives all around us, all the time.
The wonderful man Tom is, is exemplified in the people he left behind.
We keep you in our hearts,
Kathy and Jerry Fox

Dear Bonnie & Family,

Tom was such a special man, I was lucky enough to meet thru his association with the Eugene- Springfield Professionals Group. He will be remembered for his willingness to help at anytime and his kind and gentle nature, and especially his amazing zest for life and love of adventure. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Tom was an amazing man and I am honored to have known him and spent time with him (and you all). Prayers to you during this difficult time.

Bonnie,
Thank you for bringing Tom into my life. He and I knew each other for over thirty years and one thing never changed. When he walked into any room or place I was, a smile came to my face because he was there. He and I spent time together from Fields Oregon to Paris, France and he made friends everywhere we went. He, like you, made the world a nicer place to be.
My thoughts are with you and the family. If I were not in Colorado I would be there.

You were my Uncle Tom and even though you were not my uncle, you found a place in my heart closer than any uncle I have ever had. You became known as Uncle Tom to all of my friends and family. You will always be remembered, never forgotten and sorely missed. Rest in peace sweet man! Love and hugs Aunt Bonnie and so sorry for your loss. I will be in touch.

Tom we will miss you at hunting camp! You touched so many people with your smile. Bonnie, you and Tom are special to Dennis and I. Tom will greatly missed by everybody he has touched. I won't be able to make it to his service, that makes me very sad. Bonnie I would like to take you to coffee or lunch when we get back from hunting.

I've known Tom for over 40 years I'm guessing. I spent many days over at his house growing up...living just across the pasture from them. Lots of sleepovers, riding horses, riding motorcycles, playing in the pasture, collecting eggs, and Bonnie and my mom were the best of friends! Bonnie, Lorrie and Mike...I am so sorry for your loss. It's always hard going thru a loss of a parent, but with time, somehow it gets easier. You will always have that certain smell that reminds you of him or a song that reminds you of him or maybe even a certain food. Hang on to all the memories! Hugs to all of you!
