William Hance Obituary

William H. Hance

1949 - 2016

William H. (Bill) Hance passed away September 24, 2016, in Eugene, Oregon. Bill was born September 10, 1949 in Sweet Home, Oregon, son of Bill and Eileen Hance. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1967, and graduated from Pacific University in 1971 with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education.

Bill spent nearly forty years working in daycare and early childhood education settings--30 years at the Childrens' Den Childcare Center and the last several years with special needs children. Bill truly was a renaissance man! He was especially fond of hiking various trails throughout the Oregon Cascades, including the Pacific Crest Trail in the early 1970's. He volunteered his time and skills with Eugene area Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Bill even assumed a special role each holiday season involving gifts, a bright red suit, long white beard, and a hearty ho, ho ho! A movie fan and avid reader, he preferred fantasy and science fiction. A lifelong fan of community theatre, Bill played major and minor parts in numerous productions in college and community theatre in Forest Grove, Oregon and elsewhere. Bill never missed an Oregon Country Fair (since the mid-1970's) and treasured his "Fair Family." Bill enjoyed working as a Culture Jam volunteer as well.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, and sister Bonii Harris.

He is survived by niece Faith Branson (Travis), nephew KC Poissot (Charleene), and grand nieces and nephews (Xenon, Alex and Rylan Branson, and Zoe and Tyler Poissot, and many friends. He will be especially missed by his "adoptive children" Nick, Kim, Kel Trebon, and Michael Blain.

A casual get-together of family, friends and former students will be held at Blairalley Vintage Arcade, Saturday October 1, beginning at 4:00 PM (245 Blair Blvd. in Eugene.) A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 2, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at River Road Park (1400 Lake Drive, in Eugene). All are welcome!

I first met Bill at River Road Park. He really stood out to me as he had maybe 8 toddlers with him that were extremely well mannered and happy. I observed him and how he handled the different requests and demands the children would inquire of him and his demeanor was always kind and loving towards his little troop of kids. I witnessed this several times before I had to introduce myself and compliment on how well manner his kids were and how do you do this? This was Bill, humble and I believe it came naturally for him to love little tykes so his answer was not one to pat himself on the back, but to brush off the compliment. But he was amazing with several kids under his care.
Over the years after meeting the Trebon's through my kids friendships, I saw how much Bill loved and cared for Nick, Kim and Kell. I thought, how lucky they were to have Bill in their lives and Bill to have them. What a giving and loving person Bill was and he showed love and generosity in all he did, with pure motives. Bill will be missed greatly by the many people he touched, including mine.

With our deepest condolences;
We have fond memories back in the mid seventies, the early days of Bill where he was wonderful with child care; always kind and always with a smile; He assisted in care for Danny, Tony, Paul and Joe.
Our hearts go out to all his family, friends and loved ones.
We have always remembered the awesome days of yesterday. God Bless
