EATON — Robert L. Ott, 98, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Reid Health in Richmond. He was born Jan. 24, 1923 on the Ott Farm six miles north of Eaton to the late Roy and Nellie (Hapner) Ott.
Robert graduated from Monroe High School in 1941. He was a promoter of Angus cattle, having started his herd in 1938 while in FFA. He helped organize the Preble County, Richmond District, and Miami Valley Angus Associations. He was a director from Preble County to the Ohio Beef Cattlemans Association, as well as a member of the Concord United Church of Christ and Preble County Farm Bureau. He retired from Parker Hannifin in Eaton, and from farming in 1987.
Robert is survived by his daughter-in-law Jeany Ott of Eldorado; sons John and Sharon Ott of Eaton and Jeff and Patt Ott of West Manchester; stepsons Gary Mikesell and Ron Mikesell, both of California, and Ken and Kathy Mikesell of Florida; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Margene McDivitt Ott on Dec. 12, 2002; second wife Marguerite Dunlap Mikesell Ott Feb. 16, 2006; son Steven Ott Dec. 30, 2010; stepdaughter Judy Nicholl; stepson Dick Nicholl; sisters Mary Kathryn Ewing and Genevieve Trump; and special friend Evelyn Harshman.
Visitation Wednesday, July 21 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 West Main Street, Eaton, with Pastor Paul Wessler officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Cemetery north of Eaton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord United Church of Christ in care of Don Orr, Treasurer, 3120 Tony Lybrook Road, Eaton, 45320; or Eaton Emergency Squad, 324 N. Maple Street, Eaton.
