Thompson, Roy Bernard (82) passed away on January 9, 2025 at St. Luke's hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Known as Tommy by his family of origin, Roy was born in Chicago, Illinois to Roy B. Thompson, a Master Sergeant and Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army, and Mary Thompson (nee Balsamo). In addition to his parents, Roy grew up with an older sister Miriam and a younger brother Johnny, all of whom preceded him in death. Roy had fond memories of his family growing up on multiple Army bases. He spent his childhood in Chicago, Japan, Hawaii, Colorado, North Carolina and New York.
After his formative years, Roy enlisted in the US Army where he was trained in chemical warfare. There he met his first wife with whom he had three children - Roy B. "Tommy" Thompson (deceased), Wendy Maltempie, and Steven Thompson (deceased).
In November 1974, he met Adelaide "Addie" Thompson (nee Scacci) and her daughter Lori Fugate (nee Gronkiewicz). Roy and Addie married in November 1975 and welcomed their daughter Gina Seal (nee Thompson) in February 1980.
Roy joined Bunge Corporation in June 1975 where he was a grain trader until his retirement in 2009. Bunge provided Roy with opportunities to travel globally and with friendships he kept until his death. Roy was a hard worker devoted to providing for his family, which he did generously.
Roy was an avid golfer, enjoying many outings with his close friends and family. He loved to travel and took his family on many memorable trips. Roy enjoyed the company of others, entertaining everyone with his quick wit and exceptional sense of humor. He was also a brilliant and astute man. Roy valued God, family, honesty and integrity, and he exemplified those values every day of his life.
He is survived by his wife Addie Thompson, his daughters Gina Seal (Daniel), Lori Fugate (Todd), Wendy Maltempie (Philip), his grandchildren Juliet Seal, Summer Fugate, Adam Maltempie (Bethany) and Elizabeth Lambert (Sam), and his great-grandchildren Gabriel and Tollison Maltempie.
